Summer Slowdown Unlikely for RI Home Sales!

by Elaine Infantolino 24. June 2016 08:28

“Realtors are busy. It’s been a while since we’ve seen this level of sustained activity. Buyers are tapping into the lowest interest rates in three years and home owners who were not in a position to sell before, are now able to do so...Consumers on both sides of the transaction are seeing the value in making a move,” commented Arthur Yatsko, president of the Rhode Island Association of Realtors.

With 986 single family homes sold in Rhode Island last month, May marked the 18th consecutive month of increased year-over-year sales.  Sales activity rose nearly 19 percent compared to May, 2015, while the median sales price rose 5 percent to $239,000. Read the full RI Living article here.

So how did Jamestown fare?
We saw a 133% increase in sales, with 21 houses sold in the first quarter, up from 9 in 2015.

The purpose of the Conanicut Island Land Trust, as stated in the articles of incorporation, is "to promote for the benefit of the general public the preservation of natural resources principally in, but not limited to, the Town of Jamestown . . . To engage in and promote the scientific study of and education regarding natural resources . . . to use all properties held or controlled by the corporation for the benefit of the general public." The Conanicut Island Land Trust was incorporated in 1984 as a private, not-for-profit, tax exempt organization under Rhode Island law, and it is recognized as a 501(c)(3) qualified non profit organization under the Federal tax code.

The Land Trust website has information on donating to the Trust, as well as tips on how to conserve your land. With the gorgeous spring weather we've been having, consider taking a walk at Godena Farm, a 26 acre piece of property purchased by the Land Trust. It is open to the public and is located on North Road.

The Jamestown Community Theatre Presents "I Never Saw Another Butterfly"

by Elaine Infantolino 1. April 2016 07:40

DATES: Friday, April 1, 7:00pm; Saturday, April 2, 7:00pm; Sunday, April 3, 3:00pm

I Never Saw Another Butterflyby Celeste Raspanti, records the period of time from 1942-1945 when over 15,000 Jewish children passed through Terezin, a previous military garrison set up as a ghetto. Under pressure, the Germans “beautified” the ghetto and permitted representatives from the Danish Red Cross and the International Red Cross to visit in June 1944. They planted lovely gardens and painted and renovated the barracks. It was all a highly crafted ruse that included theatrical presentations, operas, and concerts, all staged for the visiting dignitaries.

Tickets in advance are $10 for adults, $7 for seniors & students. They also can be purchased at the door, $12 for adults, $10 for seniors & students. Tickets go on sale on March 10th and can be purchased at the following vendors in Jamestown: Baker’s Pharmacy, The Secret Garden, Cathryn Jamieson Salon, and at the Jamestown Arts Center. They also can be purchased off island at Pleasant Surprise in Newport and at Midnight Sun in Wickford. Any questions – call Iris (401) 258-8151.
